The Night When There Was No Moon
The night when there was no moon
The sky was black
And people felt the darkness soon
The sea drew back
And, the men, they lusted
The woman all wept
The bright stars combusted
The nocturnal creatures overslept
Not a scent of you was here
The great forests rested
Quiet, still, and clear
That night, when I looked out for my precious moon
My heart stopped when she didn’t shine back
Didn’t she know she made us all swoon?
The way she blesses our sky like a silver plaque
I begged, pleaded, and cried to the barren sky
But sadly there was no reply
Until deep into the night
When I saw her peak out of the ocean, ever so bright
That sparked a sudden commotion
Everyone sprang to their windows
To see a bright light so close
Then with a boom to the sky, she rose
I thanked her as she once again lit up the night
And felt grateful to experience her beautiful sight
Then she let down a big sparkling silver tear
As the crowd of spectators grew
She was unappreciated, she feared
But now, tonight, she knew that wasn’t true
All she wanted was to know that we loved her too
